Laughter as Courage

I think laughter may be a form of courage…As humans we sometimes stand tall and look into the sun and laugh, and I think we are never more brave than when we do that.   – Linda Ellerbee

I just found this quote and am rolling it around in my thoughts at the moment…I am caught by it…inspired by it…encouraged by it!

Living life is not an easy proposition. Living a life dedicated to living certain principles that you believe in – even less so. So how do we even begin to do it? We decide what we want our lives to be and we make choices and take the steps needed to make it happen. It does not come without our involvement. It comes with each choice, with great courage, stubborn determination, complete awareness, and first and foremost with the grace of God’s vast and wonderous help…that’s how.

How do we – just normal, everyday, struggling people – trying to live a peaceful and joyful life – in our most difficult of circumstances – lost jobs, health problems, abuse, brokeness, death, loss…the list could go on and on – express our courage and hold on to our hope? We feel…we laugh….we cry…we sing…we dance. We look for all the good life has to offer, the simple miracles around us each moment. We value those miraculous gifts we are granted by our life and by our laughter.

Instead of refusing to care and spitting in the wind – we refuse to give an inch! We make the choice and we continue to care deeply and passionately about life and about other people! We laugh in the wind and we laugh in the sun! Yes, that is how to live a wonderful life and that is when we are our most brave!
